Off-Road Thailand Expedition (4 days/
3 nights)
Chiangmai -
Mae Rim Area - Tham Lod Caves - Mae Hong Son - Chiangmai
DAY 1: CHIANGMAI - MAE RIM AREA (-/L/D)
Early pick up from your hotel and drive out of
Chiangmai by a 4 - wheel drive Land Rover vehicle
northward to the Mae Tang district, a mere 20 kilometers
north of Chiangmai. Stop to be made at the local
bustling market of Mae Malai before branching along the
bumpy road to a hidden community, along a scenic
highland road through teakwood plantations, where a stop
will be made to visit a traditional Karen and Lisu Hill
Tribe Village. A simple picnic lunch to be served. End
the first day to arrive and check in at riverside simple
lodge, for dinner and overnight.
DAY 2: MAE RIM AREA - THAM LOD CAVES (B/L/D)
We welcome the second day with a hearty breakfast before
we continue our “expedition” through nature not yet
touched by mass tourism. We drive along a bumpy-logging
road to one of the many hot springs in Thailand. Here,
we spend the late morning, observing the evergreen
jungle-park and simply relax and prepare your self for
an afternoon of activity. Stop for lunch in the charming
town of Pai, prior to continue east to the renowned Tham
Lod Caves for an afternoon of excellent caving
activities. Dinner and stay overnight at a simple lodge
in Pang Ma Pa.
DAY 3 : THAM LOD CAVES - MAE HONG SON (B/L/D)
Simple breakfast at the Lodge. We drive to Mae Hong Son,
the provincial capital of this part of Thailand. Via a
small path, crossing the river, we reach a hidden
elephant camp. Experience the gentle suspension of this
4 x 4- Jumbo walk from the camp to the border village of
the amazing Pa Dawng People, better known as the “Long
Neck Karen”. Pay a visit, while discreetly witnessing
their lifestyle and customs. Lunch will be served in a
local restaurant, before we reach our final overnight
address, we embark for an 1-hour boat trip to be
impressed by the lush green riverbanks and surroundings
while going downstream of the Pai River. Dinner and
overnight stay at the Tara Mae Hong Son.
DAY 4 : MAE HONG SON - CHIANGMAI (B/-/-)
American breakfast at the hotel. An early morning trip
brings you up the hilltop named Doi Kong Moo,
overlooking the town in a sometimes misty and yet
mystical valley before wandering around the bustling
morning market of Mae Hong Son. No lunch included. Other
stops can be made at several Shan-style temples along
the way to airport (when time permits and depending on
the confirmed return flight back to Chiangmai). From
here, we transfer you to Mae Hong Son Airport for a mere
30 minutes flight to Chiangmai. End of services (no
transfer included from Chiangmai International Airport).
