Yangon Area

Yangon
The capital of the country is immersed in green trees. Golden stupas temples and pagodas rise majestically from the luxurious vegetation.
The name of the city, which means end of strife, was given in 1755 by its founder king Alaunpaya.

Yangon embraces a series of museums, pagodas, payas, markets and temples; all to be seen and visited. Considered one of the marvels of the world and the centre of Buddhist religion in Myanmar, the glistening Shwedagon pagoda rises with all its grandeur to remind us of all the beauties that this wonderful land, that is Myanmar, has to offer.

Shwedagon Pagoda Pyay
At around a five hours trip from Yangon it is possible to visit the Shwesandaw Paya and the ancient ruins of Thayekhittaya and Hmawza.

Positioned strategically along the river Ayeyarwady, Pyay is an important centre for the transhipment and transit of goods from the north to the south of Myanmar.

Bago
Bago is one of the richest archeological sites of Burma. Built during the fifteenth century, it is possible to visit this city with a simple day-trip from Yangon.

Thanlyin
A brief excursion from Yangon will allow you to visit this small town that was once an important centre for commerce under Portuguese influence. Thanlyin offers to the sightseer a series of temples that have been built on an island that rises in the middle of the river and that can be easily reached by boat.

Twante
Twante is known for its ceramic handicrafts, traditional cotton weaving and the Shwesandaw Paya. It is reachable via a brief three-hour trip by boat. The boat trip offers a perfect opportunity to observe the daily life of a typical village of the delta.
